NY-26 Jack Davis formally announces PDF Print E-mail

Jack Davis has formally announced, though he made no secret of his intentions.  Davis nearly lost to powerful incumbent Tom Reynolds (R) in 2006. Reynolds is retiring, will finish out his term, and will not stand for re-election.

Davis owns I Squared R Element Co.  He is a former Republican and runs heavily on fair trade issues.  His trade platform is a large part of his rationale for running.  Currency manipulation and foreign subsidies are front and center - relating to farmers, workers, and manufacturers.  His website is www.jackdavis.org.

I posted a quick facts analysis of the race here. The district stretches between, but does not include, Buffalo and Rochester, NY.

Two potentially tough primary challengers exist.  Iraq War veteran Jon Powers and environmental lawyer Alice Kryzan.

Powers seems to have the support of the local Dem establishment as well as union support.  His website shows he opposes current trade policies on labor, environmental and economic grounds.   Powers also claims broad fundraising support, raising $229,200 in the 1st Quarter 2008, $400,000 cash on hand, and 70% of donors giving $50 or less.

I don't know much about Kryzan.

The Republicans were having a bit of trouble getting a top recruit into the race, according to Robert Novak.  But now Republican David Bellavia has filed FEC paperwork to become a candidate.
