Pro-globalization folks claim that poverty reduction has occurred
worldwide because of globalization. The claim was based upon
China and India benefits, though virtually all other poor countries
fell behind. In other words, the the number of people leaving
poverty behind in China and India outweighted the number of people
entering poverty in Eastern Europe, South America and Africa.
New
World Bank figures show the China/India benefit was
overestimated. Thus the ne macro economic effect was negative -
worldwide - in terms of poverty reduction. This blog post has the interesting analysis here.
