Doug Lamborn is the freshman Republican incumbent for Colorado's
fifth district. He is a wacko free trader. The Club for Growth
supported him in 2006. The Club for Growth likes our current trade
policy, which is favored by its contributors.
Jeff Crank was
Lamborn's closest Republican opponent in CO-5 during the 2006
primaries. The seat was open in that 2006 race. Crank does not
appear to be a wacko free trader, and favors neutralizing China's
currency manipulation.
Crank is coming back, challenging
Lamborn this year. The caucuses were yesterday in Colorado (Obama
and Romney won at the pres level). The odd Colorado process does
not end with a caucus, but a later primary. Crank is positioned
to compete
well with Lamborn.
CO-5 is conservative. Colorado Springs,
Focus on the Family, and the Air Force Academy are all there.
Republicans outnumber Democrats 46% to 22%. Bush beat Kerry in
2004 by 66% to 33%.
The winner of the Republican primary, in August, will be the CO-5 Congressman. Any Dem that runs will not win in November.
