Pres - McCain makes stuff up PDF Print E-mail

McCain told textile workers in 1999 that they should consider textile jobs gone.  Forget about 'em.  "High-tech" is the answer.

Sir, I did not know that your ambitions were for your children to work in a textile mill, to be honest with you. I would rather have them work in a high-tech industry, I would rather have them work in the computer industry, I would rather give them the kind of education and training that's necessary in order for them to really have prosperous and full lives. We have an honest disagreement, sir.

In 2008, in the process of losing the Michigan primary this week, he told voters to that the auto jobs are not coming back, but look to green tech.

McCain also told reporters that any candidate who says traditional auto manufacturing jobs "are coming back is either naive or is not talking straight with the people of Michigan and America." Instead, he said, business and political leaders should "embrace green technologies," adding: "That's the future. That's what we want."

That's what free-trade snake oil salesmen do.  Sell you blue sky... or B.S.  Here is McCain's high tech.

And as to green-tech, Manufacturing & Technology News reported this week that the "U.S. Is Virtually A Non-Player In The Solar Power Production Business."

Someone send McCain a memo.  He just makes stuff up.

My son's teeshirt
written by Cindy , January 23, 2008
My son has a teeshirt, probably made in China. He tends to exaggerate as teens do. We usually tell him he is full of **it. So, when shopping one day we bought him the perfect shirt. The shirt says "I make stuff up" Maybe he should send it to John smilies/grin.gif

McCain does not get it
written by TPN , January 23, 2008
I have been in manufacturing for over 25 years and watched our industry suffer heavy losses as our so called leaders have watched (helped) it happen. McCain and the rest of the free traders (as opposed to fair traders) are removed from the reality of how complicated and connected this industry really is.

As a manufacturing company, we not only employ production workers, we also employ purchasing agents, accountants, designers, project managers, tool and die trades. Every manufacturing plant no matter the product is supported by a cast of very talented and most likely highly compensated people. We also buy lots of products from other manufacturing companies who have similar structures. We pay to have our people trained at the local college and pay money to legal and professional firms. We support our community and local business. We also pay a lot in taxes to support our local school district.

The other obvious misconception with these so called leaders is that factory jobs consist of rows of people doing mindless work. Nothing could be further from reality. Most modern US manufacturing lines are high tech and highly automated, which by the way creates more jobs for the folks who make those machines (another industry we are sending off shore). Most US companies who did not invest in automation went out of business long ago when the playing field was level. There is nothing wrong with learning how to operate a million dollar piece of equipment.

Free Trade is nothing more that a giant money grab and the American Consumer is going to pay the price.

Free Traders - wake up and smell the stench!
