Whether your candidate won or lost in Iowa, democracy won. Caucus-goer turnout hit an all time high yesterday.
This is the number of registered party voters in Iowa:
Republicans - 550,000
Democrats - 600,000
In 2000, the last time there was a caucus in both parties, these were the numbers in Iowa.
Republicans - 87,000 caucus-goers
Democrats - 59,000 caucus-goers
Last night, the caucuses were huge:
Republicans - 115,000
Democrats - 236,000
Dems won on turnout, but Republicans also had a big increase.
More participation is good. And more participation makes votes
more likely to beat big money, including on the trade issue.
