China is re-nationalizing its economy, manipulating its currency, VAT-tariffing our goods, banning U.S. beef and pork, and subsidizing the industries it does not own.  But David Brooks calls Americans protectionist.  If we respond to the foreign government actions, we are being "punitive."

Henry Paulson, formerly of Goldman Sachs, tells Congress to do nothing.  The Administration is acting.  It is talking.  It is engaging in a Strategic Economic Dialogue®.   I called it a Fruitless Economic Monologue.  SED = FEM.

And the Chinese reaction

"We see a 'dialogue fatigue' on the Chinese side," said James Zimmerman, the president of the American Chamber of Commerce in China. ...

Beijing appears to be growing tired of listening to a lengthening litany of American complaints.

Yeah.  I understand.  When you lobby to become a WTO member and then flaunt the rules, it is really tiring to listen to the laundry list of your violations.  Sometimes even irritating.

But, help is on the way.  Rep. Charlie Rangel distracts everybody with the Peru FTA so we don't get into enforcing that which has gone before.  Gee, no more floor time to address currency manipulation... so sorry.

Pelosi said the Dems cannot be viewed as anti-trade.  And Bush.... well you know what he has been doing on trade.

Thank goodness for the Freshmen Senators and Freshmen Congressman.  We need more like them.
