Never a dull moment.
* Lou Dobbs brands the sane faction of Democrats
under his own name, "Lou Dobbs Democrats", in contrast to the Democratic Leadership
Council. Whether the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will
approve the brand is still an open question.
* Dr. Peter Navarro, in House Ways & Means testimony, details Chinese mercantilism, showing that the relationship of "free trade" to "free markets" is as close as Britney Spears' relationship to her hair.
* Alan Tonelson
argues that granting Bush's request for more trade authority (i.e. Fast
Track) in light of a botched trade record, makes as much sense as
granting Bush greater war powers authority in Iraq.
* USDA's Grain Inspection, Packers & Stockyards
Administration waves its arms and generates swirling smoke in an
attempt to distract us. But after $4.5 million, hundreds of pages
of so-called research by biased researchers, the agency's multi-year so-called study
confirmed what we already know... meat packer ownership and contractual
control of livestock drives prices down for producers. Packes
make more money by controlling supplies. Consumers see no price
benefit.
* Robert Kuttner details the four way battle on Fast Track and China, among the major players - the President vs. China vs. Democrats vs. Democrats.

Phil Gramm, former Senator from Texas, is so worried about his buddies
losing access to cheap imports from child and prison labor that he has
come out from the shadows to support John McCain (link to article requires subscription) on the basis of free trade.
