Because decisions on trade are made in Washington, I will begin tracking races on this blog. Here are South Carolina numbers for the Republican presidential candidates.
South Carolina primaries - January 19
At stake: 47 delegates (of an estimated 2,517 total for GOP convention)
Poll: Fred Thompson, 24%; Rudy Giuliani, 20%; Mitt Romney, 15%; John McCain, 11%; Mike Huckabee, 3%
2004 presidential vote: George Bush, 58%; John Kerry, 41%

The Federal Reserve has cut the federal funds rate and its short-term lending rate to banks to near zero, but those moves have done little to unlock credit markets. Conventional mortgage money and business loans remain too scarce, as regional banks, which are the arteries and capillaries of our credit system, remain short of loanable funds.
