Sesame Workshop licenses its characters to Mattel. Big Bird
and Elmo are big sellers. $100 million in product licensing is
at stake.
Sesame Workshop is imposing new testing requirements on the safety of toys licensed from it.
``If none of the toy manufacturers can guarantee safety for the
consumers who buy our licensed toys, we will get out of the business
altogether,'' Gary Knell, Sesame Workshop's president, told a House
Energy and Commerce subcommittee today.
