The Brazilian government has filed a complaint
against the US at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) over the subsidies
that Washington granted its agricultural producers from 1999 to
2005.
The U.S. does neither an effective agriculture
policy, nor an effective industrial policy. Our government has
"faith based" trade... promote trade, even if it is just us importing
stuff, at all costs and every thing will be ok.
When we do have a
domestic policy, Brazil uses the WTO to quash it. Those three
trade lawyers in Toronto, called a WTO tribunal, then get to decide if
the laws our Congress passed, and the President signed, will
stand.
Note to voters: You did not elect those Toronto guys.
