Daniel Griswold of the Cato Institute wrote this wise tome: "Trade Wrongly Blamed for Unemployment."  Here is the synopsis.

Griswold probably thinks the trade deficit adds to GDP.  A brilliant man.  Probably on a grant from Caterpillar.
