The 2008 election resulted, so far, in the Democrats controlling 255 seats, the Republicans controlling 174 seats and 6 races yet undecided.  This is a net Democratic gain of 22 seats as compared to 2006, though two of the gains occurred between elections.  After the 2006 mid-term elections, the Democrats controlled 233 seats to the Republicans’ 202. 

House seat changes:

AZ-01: Kirkpatrick (D) beat Hay (R) for the open seat causing a party change    

CA-52: Hunter (R) beat Lumpkin (D) for the open seat

CO-02: Polis (D) beat Starin (R) for the open seat
CO-04: Markey (D) beat Musgrave (R), the incumbent, causing a party change
CO-06: Coffman (R) beat Eng (D) for the open seat

CT-04: Himes (D) beat Shays (R), the incumbent, causing a party change

FL-08: Grayson (D) beat Keller (R), the incumbent, causing a party change
FL-15: Posey (R) beat Blythe (D) for the open seat
FL-16: Rooney (R) beat Mahoney (D), the incumbent, causing a party change
FL-24: Kosmas (D) beat Feeney (R), the incumbent, causing a party change

AK-01: Between Young (R), the incumbent, and Berkowitz (D)
CA-04: Between McClintock (R) and Brown (D) for the open seat
OH-15 Between Stivers (R) and Kilroy (D) for the open seat
VA-05: Between Perriello (D) and Goode (R), the incumbent

According to the New York Times, an additional two House races will be held on December 6, 2008 for LA-02 and LA-04.
