Yesterday we find out the China has arrested 22 in a criminal syndicate that marketed melamine powder for adding to milk. Now we find out that the Beijing government ordered the poison milk story suppressed just before the Olympics.
First, it is officially admitted that the local government conspired in the deadly cover up.
In Communist Party newspaper the People's Daily, Shijiazhuang city government spokesman Wang Jianguo said they had been asked by the Sanlu Group for help in "managing" the media response to the case when first told of the issue on August 2, six days before the opening of the Olympic Games in Beijing. ...
"Please can the government increase control and coordination of the media, to create a good environment for the recall of the company's problem products," the People's Daily cited the letter from Sanlu as saying.
"This is to avoid whipping up the issue and creating a negative influence in society," it added.
Second, we find that the central government was involved.
This week, Reporters Without Borders said Beijing had ordered news of the scandal hushed up ahead of the Olympics.
"Several Chinese journalists have said that it is becoming more and more obvious that the authorities in July prevented an investigation into the toxic milk coming out so as not to tarnish China's image before the Olympics," it said in a statement.
Over 53,000 babies became ill. At least four died. Is that not a "negative influence in society"?

Here is another piece written by Dr. McMillion of MBG Information Services.
Even during year of recession, the US is producing almost $2 billion each day LESS than it is spending and is forced to borrow and sell assets abroad to make up the difference
The Dept. of Commerce BEA reported today on the most complete accounting of US commercial relations with the world the Current Account -- for 2008-Q3. Despite the US recession that started one year ago, todays report shows that during the 91 days of Q3 the US suffered another -$174.1 billion in global losses bringing total Current Account losses for the first three calendar quarters of 2008 to -$530,675 billion.

That is, despite the US recession that began in December 2007, through the first 274 days of 2008 the US produced goods and services worth -$1.94 billion LESS each day than it spent and was forced to borrow and sell assets abroad to offset the difference. Economists expect that when a countrys economy is growing slower than the world economy and certainly when it is in recession that countrys current accounts will be in surplus as it imports less and exports more.
Since 2001 the US has grown slower than the world economy every year and yet the US has accumulated current account deficits (production shortages/net foreign borrowing) totaling -$4.8 Trillion.
Any economic rescue plan that ignores this constant hemorrhage of production and wealth is doomed to tragic failure. |
