Doha talks fail. In Geneva. PDF Print E-mail

Wacko free traders are in a tailspin.  The world will now end.  It will end... I say.

“It is a massive blow to confidence in the global economy,” said Peter Power, a spokesman for the European Commission, based in Brussels. “The confidence shot in the arm that we needed badly will not now happen.”

The Doha round moved its caravan to Geneva.  The U.S. blames China and India.

Phil Gramm says we are a "nation of whiners."  Look out for a steaming pile of... editorials tomorrow whining about the collapse of the Doha round of WTO talks.

What will the WaPo say?

What will the NY Times say?

Denver Post.  Etc.

They will say that poor people will suffer when the multinationals cannot gain more control globally.  OK.  They will leave out the 2nd part of the sentence.  But they'll bemoan the impact on the poor.

They won't mention that currency manipulation was unaddressed.  As was border taxes.  And imaginative trading partner subsidies, like gas subsidies.  They won't mention poison food.  Substandard steel.  Rules of origin inviting fraud.

No.  They won't mention that.
