Jack Davis nearly unseated Tom Reynolds in 2006.  Davis runs I Squared R Element Company in Akron, NY.  Reynolds has announced he's not running.  Davis is running as a Dem, and continues working the trade issues hard.  Jonathan Powers is the other Democratic primary.

Davis' recent press release is below the fold.

Jack Davis Statement on Recent New York State Department of Labor Report
³Numbers don¹t lie, but politicians do.  Empty words and broken promises

have given us the worst economy since the Great Depression.²

Akron, NY:  On July 17th, the New York State Department of Labor reported a
modest monthly increase in state seasonally adjusted employment.  While
encouraging, the report (linked below) also noted the state¹s labor market
conditions have continued to deteriorate, with manufacturing as the industry
registering the largest drop in jobs. Industrialist Jack Davis reacted with
the following statement:

³This report is an indictment of federal policy and politics as usual.
Although there was a miniscule increase in private sector jobs across New
York State, another 3,100 jobs have been lost in Trade, Transportation &
Utilities, 3,100 more in Construction, and  hitting closest to home  over
17,900 manufacturing jobs have been lost.  Overall, 34,400 jobs lost, 4,200
jobs gained.  That¹s the kind of ³fuzzy math² only George Bush and Tom
Reynolds could love.

³Numbers don¹t lie, but politicians do. Empty words and broken promises have
given us the worst economy since the Great Depression.  With dozens of
lobbyists for every member of Congress, is it any surprise we have federal
trade and economic policies that put the special interests first?  Common
sense solutions cannot be passed in Congress, and we pay the price with
higher taxes, lost jobs, and record high gasoline prices.  This is wrong.

³I know what it takes to create and save jobs  I¹ve been doing it for over
40 years.  I have a lifetime of creating jobs and providing commonsense
solutions in our region.  I am also the only candidate to join Barack Obama
in rejecting lobbyist and PAC campaign cash.  Special interest money doesn¹t
impress me; I won¹t take a dime.

³I am an independent voice for working men and women in this area and the
only candidate with proven experience in saving and creating jobs.  Give me
the opportunity, and I will bring that experience and independence to
Washington, DC.²

They don't call economics "the dismal science" for nothing. Even during the current crisis on Wall Street, citizens who live and work on Main Street find it difficult to grasp economic issues they know are urgent and important.

That's why a local group got creative, inviting actors who play founding fathers Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson to discuss election-year economic issues.

The result is "Back to the Future," an event scheduled for Thursday at the Pikes Peak Center that also features local congressional candidates.
