McCain's 15 page economic plan is here. Page 7 and 14 includes duplicate language on trade.
John McCain believes that globalization is an opportunity for American workers today and in the future. Ninety-five percent of the world's customers lie outside our borders and we need to be at the table when the rules for access to those markets are written. To do so, the U.S. should engage in multilateral, regional and bilateral efforts to reduce barriers to trade, level the global playing field and build effective enforcement of global trading rules.
His tax policies include merely lowering individual and corporate tax rates, "expensing" equipment and technology investments, etc. No version of consumption tax. (Page 6). |

John McCain is pushing his free trade support more than any other presidential candidate in history... at the campaign stage.
No candidate in recent memory has made such broad support for free trade as central to his campaign as McCain. Those presidents who pushed for lowering the barriers to international commerce, Bill Clinton and both George Bushes, were far more ardent free traders once they reached office than they had presented themselves when seeking it.
That's been the worry. Candidates say nothing about trade, but then support these trade agreements later. But is it presidential to support them? |

Let me guess. No editorial board member at the Denver Post has an economics degree. And they have never looked at unlawful subsidy cases. And they could not define currency manipulation if their life depended upon it. And they have no clue what a border adjustable tax is. And their kids never got sick from Chinese seafood or Mexican onions. And none of their relatives worked at the Colorado Springs Intel plant that is now in China.
Fifty bucks says I'm right on all points.
So here's what the Front Range flavor of free trade wackos said last week.
Trade protectionism didn't fix the Depression and it would only hurt Colorado's nearly $8 billion export economy today. |

John McCain continues campaigning today for the president of the United States. Which state is he in today? Um... Mexico. Not New Mexico. The Mexico with Mexico City in it. Old Mexico. That one.
McCain's trip to Colombia and Mexico was billed primarily as an opportunity to promote free trade in the Western Hemisphere.
He has spoken out this week in favor of the North American Free Trade Agreement between the U.S., Canada and Mexico and the proposed Colombia Free Trade deal currently stalled in Congress. On Wednesday, he said as president he might pursue a possible free trade agreement that would cover the entire Western Hemisphere.
And George Bush's brother, Jeb, is joining McCain there.

Montana: Rasmussen has Obama up 48-43% over McCain. Montana has not voted Dem (presidentially speaking) since Clinton in 1992. This is the only surprise in today's polls.
Connecticut: Obama up big. 52-35%. Yawn.
Massachusetts: Obama up 53-33%. Swing state? Not so much.
New York: Obama up by 31 points, 60-29%. Nothing to see here... move along. |
